Young people had felt ignored and disconnected. The challenge was to put their voices front and centre, not just as quotes but as part of the city’s visual landscape. We needed a system that could flex and adapt while letting individuality shine through at every turn.

Rather than broadcasting a single message, the brand system had to hold many. Each quote represented a unique perspective, and the identity needed to honour that without feeling chaotic. Our solution was to build a modular framework that supported variation while staying recognisably Refresh.

The identity was built around three pillars: expression, legibility and true individuality. No two pieces looked the same. A rotating system of colours, type styles and layout patterns allowed every quote to breathe on its own terms. The result was a living campaign that could shift and morph across touchpoints while staying cohesive and recognisable.

Refresh filled Lincoln’s streets with colour, conversation and care. From casual passersby to city stakeholders, the message was loud and clear: young people matter, and their words deserve space. Since the initial campaign in Lincoln, Refresh has travelled to seven locations, reached over 1.5 million people, welcomed 2,425 participants, and produced more than 300 artworks. The project continues to grow, creating bold public platforms for youth voice wherever it goes.
